Thursday, July 13, 2006 Johansson to go for another termBERLIN (AP) UEFA president Lennart Johansson wants one more four-year term as head of European soccer's governing body. The 76-year-old Swede told a meeting Tuesday of UEFA's executive committee he had decided to seek "a further, and final, term of office." Johansson has served as Europe's top soccer official since 1990. He had previously indicated he would step down after his current term expires. Johansson said FIFA President Sepp Blatter had encouraged him to stay on and pledged to promote "evolution not revolution" in soccer, if he wins the presidential election in January. |
