Naito stops Yamaguchi with TKO

WBC flyweight champion Daisuke Naito stopped Shingo Yamaguchi in the 11th round Tuesday to successfully defend the title for the fourth time.

Naito led on the judges' scorecards throughout and dropped Yamaguchi once in the decisive round with a hard right to the head before the referee jumped in to halt the bout at 1 minute, 11 seconds into the round in the all-Japanese world title match at Ryogoku Kokugikan.

Naito, who saw his record improve to 34 wins, 22 of them by knockout, two defeats with three draws, extended his own record for the oldest Japanese boxer to hold a world title at 34 years, three months.

"This wasn't a good fight but I was able to win," Naito said. "I suppose that Yamaguchi had been studying my boxing style and this gave me trouble. Right now, I just want to take a good rest."
