Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 Ski jumper Yumoto wins World Cup eventKyodo News
Japanese ski jumper Fumihisa Yumoto won a World Cup event in Pragelato, Italy, on Sunday to claim his first career victory on the world's top-tier circuit. Yumoto earned 114.8 points with a 126-meter effort on his first attempt and the second round of jumps was cancelled because of strong winds, making the 24-year-old the 11th Japanese World Cup winner and first since Kazuyoshi Funaki's success in Sapporo in February 2005. Simon Ammann of Switzerland came second with 113.6 and Norway's Johan Remen Evensen third with 110.3. Veteran Japanese Noriaki Kasai finished a season-high sixth with 103.4. |
