Iijima takes control in third round

MIYAZAKI (Kyodo) Akane Iijima surged into a three-shot lead with a course record-tying 7-under 65 in the third round of the Japan LPGA Tour Championship on Saturday.

Iijima collected eight birdies against one bogey to reach 8-under 208 in the season-ending major tournament at Miyazaki Country Club.

Mayu Hattori shot a 68 for second place. South Korean Song Bo Bae and money leader Shinobu Moromizato shared third at 4 under after rounds of 68 and 70, respectively.
