(Kyodo) South Korea's Jeon Mi Jeong built a three-stroke lead after shooting a bogey-free 6-under 66 Friday in the first round of the Sankyo Ladies Open. Jeon, who has won three times on the JLPGA Tour this year, made three birdies each on the front and back nines at Akagi Country Club. Mayu Hattori sat alone in second, followed by Akane Iijima and Michie Oba, who were four shots behind Jeon. Sakura Yokomine and 2008 top money earner Miho Koga were in a five-way tie for fifth at 71. Current money leader Shinobu Moromizato opened with a 75. Ikeda fires 64
YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) Yuta Ikeda shot a sizzling 8-under 64 Friday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Canon Open. Ikeda, currently second on the JGTO money list behind 18-year-old Ryo Ishikawa, had an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey at Totsuka Country Club. The 23-year-old holed a pitching wedge from 94 yards for eagle on the par-5 13th hole. He went on to birdie four of the next five holes. Kenichi Kuboya was one shot off the lead. Tetsuya Haraguchi and former U.S. PGA player Shigeki Maruyama tied for third after 66s. The tournament has been shortened to 54 holes after the first day's play was canceled Thursday due to a typhoon. |
