Japan golfers third at World Cup

SHENZHEN, China (Kyodo) Toru Taniguchi and Ryuji Imada gave Japan its best result in six years in the World Cup of Golf on Sunday, finishing tied for third with Australia behind Sweden and Spain.

Taniguchi and Imada shot a 68 in alternate-shot play to finish the 72-hole team event at 18-under 270 at Mission Hills for Japan's best showing since Shigeki Maruyama and Toshimitsu Izawa won in 2002 in Mexico.

Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson shot a 63 to bring Sweden its first title in 17 years with a 27-under 261, three strokes ahead of Spain.

In the highlights of Japan's final round, U.S.-based Imada holed a 20-yard shot from a greenside bunker to eagle the par-5 15th hole.
