Saturday, June 13, 2009 Mariners ruin Uehara's dayBALTIMORE (AP) A brief rain delay was just what Garrett Olson needed to calm down in his return to Camden Yards.
Getting a tape-measure home run from Russell Branyan didn't hurt, either. Olson gave up two runs before a 27-minute delay, then came out and threw three scoreless innings for his first win of the season in the Seattle Mariners' 6-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night. Adrian Beltre went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Ichiro Suzuki doubled, tripled and scored two runs. Ichiro reached base for the 40th straight game, longest in the AL this season and tying his career best, and finished 2-for-5. Baltimore starter Koji Uehara (2-4) was returning from a trip to the disabled list. Activated before the game after being out since May 24 with a strained left hamstring, he gave up four runs on seven hits through five innings. Uehara was sharp early, allowing just one hit and striking out two through two innings. But after the rain delay he gave up hits on the first three pitches he threw. "The guy hasn't pitched in two weeks and I think you could tell tonight. There was some rust there so obviously he was affected by the long layoff," Baltimore manager Dave Trembley said. Athletics 4, Twins 3 In Oakland, Rajai Davis slapped an RBI single in the ninth inning and the A's rallied from a late three-run deficit. Red Sox 4, Yankees 3 In Boston, J.D. Drew hit an RBI single to spark an eighth-inning rally, then scored the go-ahead run on Mike Lowell's fly ball. Takashi Saito (1-0) earned his first AL victory with four outs of scoreless relief, while Hideki Matsui finished 2-for-3 in the loss. Rangers 1, Blue Jays 0 In Arlington, Texas, Kevin Millwood threw 7 2/3 excellent innings. White Sox 4, Tigers 3 In Chicago, Scott Podsednik hit an RBI single off Joel Zumaya with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Rays 11, Angels 1 In St. Petersburg, Fla., Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs, and Dioner Navarro homered and had three RBIs. Indians 4, Royals 3 (10) In Cleveland, Shin Soo Choo lined a single off a low-flying sea gull, driving in Mark DeRosa from second base in the 10th. NATIONAL LEAGUE
