Braves, Kawakami close to deal

NEW YORK (Kyodo) The Braves are expected to complete a deal that would bring right-hander Kenshin Kawakami to Atlanta, Major League Baseball reported on its official Web site Friday.

Kawakami, who has spent the past 11 seasons as one of the top pitchers in the Central League, reportedly is expected to arrive in the United States on Sunday.
