Season's first frost, ice chill nation

Kyodo News

The first frost and ice of the season were observed Sunday across a wide swath of Japan as cool and moist air swept in from the Pacific Ocean.

The temperature in Tokyo was forecast to reach only 10 degrees during the day, about average for early January, but was expected to return to its normal range Monday, the Meteorological Agency said.

The season's first frost was seen in Sendai; Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture; Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture; Kyoto; and Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, while ice was observed in Sendai, Maebashi and Matsue, the agency said.
