Suit demands Toyota throttle recall

NEW YORK (Kyodo) Two Los Angeles County residents have filed a lawsuit demanding that Toyota Motor Corp. issue a recall for all models with electronic throttle systems that could cause unintended acceleration.

In the lawsuit, filed Thursday, the plaintiffs said they had experienced repeated incidents of unintended acceleration while driving their Toyota cars and seek statewide and national class-action status with other owners of Toyota vehicles with similar throttle systems.

The plaintiffs' cars are not included in the safety recall Toyota launched last month, which covers some 3.8 million vehicles spread across seven models. That recall was issued to eliminate the risk of unsecured driver-side floor mats slipping forward and jamming the accelerator pedal.
