Season's first snow seen in Tohoku

Kyodo News

Cities in the Tohoku region, including Yamagata, Niigata and Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, had their first snow of the season Tuesday as a cold air mass moved over Japan, the Meteorological Agency said.

Many cities across the country recorded their lowest temperatures this season, with Asahikawa, Hokkaido, checking in at minus 6.1 and Sendai at 3.4.

Akita saw its first icy roads this season, while many high peaks, including Mount Asama in Gunma Prefecture and Mount Daisen in Tottori Prefecture, were capped with snow.
