'Peace clock' gets set back to one

HIROSHIMA (Kyodo) A digital counter on the "peace clock" monument at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was reset Tuesday, a day after North Korea proclaimed it had conducted a second nuclear test.

In the 12th reset since the clock was established by a peace group in August 2001, the digital counter was changed to one from 960 — the number of days since the last nuclear test was conducted, also by Pyongyang, in October 2006.

The 960-day span was the longest lull between nuclear tests since the clock debuted.

The monument was produced and donated to the museum on the 56th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.

The 3.1-meter-tall monument also displays a digital number showing the number of days since the Hiroshima bombing, 23,304 as of Tuesday.
