Quake shakes Miyagi Prefecture

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 jolted Miyagi Prefecture and its vicinity Sunday morning, the Meteorological Agency said.

No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 7:31 a.m. quake.

The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Ishinomaki, Higashimatsushima and Wakuya, and 3 in Kesennuma and Kurihara, all in Miyagi, and 2 in Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture.
