Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 Permanent SDF dispatch law eyedKyodo News
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party started discussions Wednesday toward the establishment of a permanent law to dispatch Self-Defense Forces units overseas whenever necessary, in lieu of the current ad hoc legislation worked out each time such a need arises. Discussions are being conducted by an LDP joint committee set up pertaining to a general law on international peace cooperation. Panel members say they hope the move will help build momentum for Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's bid for such a law. |
