Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 Suzuki to cut 1,200 jobs in HungaryKyodo News
Suzuki Motor Corp. will shrink the workforce at its Hungarian factory to around 4,400 from 5,600 by the end of February, company officials said Saturday. Suzuki plans to cut production there to adjust for falling vehicle demand in Europe resulting from the global financial crisis, they said. Suzuki also plans to shorten daily production line hours at the factory in mid-December to bring its annual output to 210,000 units, down 90,000 from the current level, they said. The factory makes compact cars mainly for the European market. A similar production adjustment has prompted Nissan Motor Co. to cut about 2,500 jobs in the United States and Spain. |
