Saturday, March 10, 2007 Orders pour in for 1 million yen brandyKyodo News
Liquor importer Asahi Breweries Ltd. has received reservations for nearly 300 bottles of Louis XIII Black Pearl brandy, which is going for 1 million yen a bottle.
Asahi stopped accepting orders Thursday for the French liquor via department stores and liquor shops across the country. Asahi originally planned to sell 60 to 70 bottles of the brandy, which is produced by the Remy Cointreau Group. The internationally acclaimed brandy maker is limiting bottles sold abroad to 786. After orders reached 297, however, Asahi decided to boost its quota to 120 and select customers at random. The brandy will go on sale Monday. Louis XIII Black Pearl is a blend of 1,200 unblended brandies. It comes in a special 700-ml crystal bottle designed by Baccarat, it said. |
