Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 Nissin goes green with reusable cupsOSAKA (Kyodo) Nissin Food Products Co. will launch reusable instant noodle cups and refill packs for its Cup Noodle brand of products March 26 in a bid to win more customers among ecology-minded people.
Aiming for annual sales of 2 billion yen, the major noodle maker will sell one packet with Cup Noodle contents for 122 yen each, 33 yen less than existing Cup Noodle products that come in a disposable plastic cup, the company said. Nissin will also launch a 570 yen box set with two servings of noodles and a reusable cup. The cup is washable. It will carry the same design as the existing disposable container. But because it has a double plastic sleeve, users can make their own cup designs by inserting a photo or patterned paper between the sleeves, the company said. The noodles will be sold in 10 prefectures in the Kanto region centering on Tokyo. |
