Friday, July 3, 2009 SHORT TAKES
Chikujo Seyo!By MIZUHO AOKI
Director: Yo Kohatsu
Language: Japanese A feudal warrior (Kataoka Ainosuke) from the 17th century rises from the dead in a depopulated town in Aichi Prefecture to build a castle that he failed to complete about 400 years ago. Since he has only been allowed three days of life, after seeing a homeless person's house, he finally decides to build with cardboard. It's an absurd story, but the castle looks great and kabuki actor Ainosuke gives a powerful performance as the warrior who arrogantly orders people to build the castle, but is ignored.
